Ministry Purpose: To foster and support vocations to the priesthood, sisterhood, brotherhood, and permanent deaconate
by
creating a "culture of vocations" within the parish.
"DISCOVER THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED"
Every 4th Thursday of the month, the archdiocesan office of vocations
sponsors an event where young adults, age 18 to 35, may take the time to be
with priests, sisters, brothers, seminarians, and other young adults to
discern God's call to them. It is an evening of great food, rich prayer,
inspirational music, and compelling words as they grow in their courageous
conviction to serve Christ and the Church. The gatherings are held at The
University of St. Thomas, 3800 Montrose, Houston, TX 77006, and begin with
food and a social gathering at 6 p.m. and the main program at 7 p.m. with a
different featured speaker each month.
Invite young adults who think they may be called. Or if you are that young
adult, join in! For more information, contact Mikki McCarren, the parish
vocations committee coordinator, at 281-655-8847 or email by clicking
here.
Vocation Chalice Program:
In January 2007, the Vocation Chalice Program began at Christ the Redeemer Parish. In this program, a different family or individual is presented with a special chalice after Communion at one of the Sunday Masses. That family/individual is commissioned to display the chalice in a prominent place in their home and pray for vocations that week on behalf of the entire parish community.
A prayer booklet is provided with the chalice, which includes suggested prayers and discussion questions for each day.
If you are interested in participating in this program, please click on the Vocation Chalice Signup link below and include your name, phone number, email address, and the Mass you normally attend.
"When one prays for vocations, one learns to look with the wisdom of the Gospel at the world and at the needs of life and the salvation of every human being." [Pope John Paul II]
For Parents:
It is the desire of every parent to see their children grow to be fulfilled, happy, and successful in life. True fulfillment, happiness, and success are firmly rooted in discovering and embracing God's will. The greatest gift a parent can offer is encouragement and support for this journey.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church recognizes the vital role of parents in vocation promotion:
"Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God" (#2226) and "they should encourage them in the vocation which is proper to each child, fostering with special care any religious vocation." (#1656)
While each child and family is unique, many experience common questions and concerns regarding vocations, particularly those of priesthood and consecrated life. It is our hope that the materials offered here will assist you in your privileged role as parents.
If you would like additional information or guidance, please contact the parish vocations committee.
