Logo of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church - Houston, Texas
The logo for Christ the Redeemer carries with it a number of design elements representative of the Catholic faith and in particular, the parish community of Christ the Redeemer in Houston, Texas. At its heart is an anthropomorphic representation of the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This beloved image of Christ, with arms outstretched to embrace the world, has become a beacon to travelers the world over.
The figure of Christ in the logo reaches beyond the boundaries of the bell canopy, a familiar image unique to the parish church of Christ the Redeemer. Built in a Southwestern mission style of architecture, the church reflects the faith of the travelers who brought the Catholic religion to the Texas plains and points beyond. Christ is at the heart of
the parish community, reaching beyond borders as pilgrims sent forth in mission to all in need. The figure of Christ stands on a raised hill, calling to mind the hill of Calvary outside Jerusalem where our "redemption" in Christ the Redeemer took place.
At the center of the figure of the Redeemer is a golden circle with a center of crimson red that calls to mind the heart of Christ and the gift of His body in the Eucharist.
The typeface of the logo is Eaglefeather, based on a Frank Lloyd Wright design from the Eaglerock project of 1922. The logo was designed by Radiant Creative Group in Houston on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in 2005.
